Introduction

I have produced this website for my own enjoyment and for the enjoyment of others interested in birds and/or photography. I hope you find something of interest here.

When I bought my digital SLR and lens in May 2004, I assumed that good quality images would be easy to achieve. I never imagined how challenging photographing birds would be! However, although many of the hours spent wandering the countryside with my camera looking for likely subjects has been frustrating, especially in the early days, they have been very happy hours.

This website contains my favourite images. I'm not saying they are all technically without fault; far from it! But I hope that with time and experience my images will improve and perhaps many of the images I now find acceptable will eventually be replaced.

You should ideally have a broadband connection to view these images; otherwise things may be slow. Having Javascript enabled (the default setting with most browsers) will also speed up movement between galleries after the initial download.

I hope you enjoy the site. Please use the Contact me link to tell me what you think.

Site Information

Pictures are processed and uploaded as soon as possible after they are taken. Pictures taken in the last 30 days can be seen on the Latest images page. You can submit your email address above and be notified when new images are added.

The My favourite images page contains those pictures I am most pleased with. What makes a picture a favourite? It may be that it is technically good - sharp and well exposed. Alternatively, the circumstances in which a picture is taken may make a picture special; the behaviour of the bird, for example, or the work that went in to getting the picture. These are things that only I can really appreciate.

All my uploaded images can be found from the All images page. You can search by individual bird species, family, location, and / or keyword.

The Photographic locations page lists and briefly describes the locations where the pictures were taken. The page is not yet complete and I realise this is quite an undertaking. After the time-consuming task of assessing and processing pictures, it requires a lot of effort to update the locations page. I'm determined to complete the task, however.

Please comment on the website and / or images via the Contact me page. I would welcome any criticisms, ideas, etc. It would be great to hear from you.

STAY UP-TO-DATE!

On my last visit to Connah's Quay I saw one or two spots that might be good at high tide. High tide (about 5m) would be around midday, so I...

TECHNICAL STUFF

I have recently completed an IT degree working with ASP.NET, so I chose to develop this website in ASP.NET with MSSQL database.

If you would like more information on the technical aspects of the site, please get in touch.
