Bempton Cliffs

These chalk sea-cliffs are the place to visit during the breeding season - April to August - when almost a quarter of a million seabirds are present. There are a number of specially-created cliff top viewpoints from which to photograph Fulmars, Gannets, Guillemots, Kittiwakes and Puffins.
Good shots can be obtained with a 400mm lens, particularly flight shots, but to get shots of the nesting Gannets, a lens in the region of 600mm is required. Pleasing seascapes can also be obtained with shorter focal lengths.
The reserve is on the cliff road from the village of Bempton, which is on the B1229 road from Flamborough to Filey. In Bempton village, turn northwards at the White Horse public house and the reserve is at the end of the road after 1 mile (follow the brown tourist signs).
