Birds on Stamps

Birds on stamps image albums

I collected stamps for a brief period as a teenager and realised much later that I had quite a number of stamps depicting birds.

I happened to mention this to my good friend Karen Middlehurst, who decided she would add to my collection by bringing me stamps from her travels around the UK and the world. The latest additions are from Peru, Malaysia and the Isle of Man.

I decided it would be a good idea to add images of these stamps with details to my Website, so I started scanning and uploading in September 2010. It's quite a slow process that will probably take me a long time to complete.

The albums are organised by country. At the time of writing I haven't created albums for all the countries I need - I will add them when required.

On many of these stamps, the common and/or scientific name of the bird is given, making identification unnecessary or easy. Where a name is not given I mark it as 'unknown'. With non-UK stamps I do this even if the bird looks familiar, just in case it is a similar-looking but different species, or in case the bird has a different name in the country from where the stamp came.

If you can identify a bird, or if you spot an error, please get in touch.
