Bwlch Nant yr Arian

Red kite feeding takes place at the visitor centre here at 3pm each day (2pm in winter). Red Kite feeding stations provide ideal opportunities to practise flight photography. The birds are large and relatively slow moving, and it's possible to produce some impressive shots with a 300 to 400mm lens.
The Bwlch Nant yr Arian centre has a beautiful lakeside setting, and it's possible to position yourself almost anywhere next to the lake, varying your position in relation to the soaring birds depending on the position and strength of the sun. There are also two scenic way-marked walks at the centre, which I have yet to cover fully.
I have also visited the nearby Red Kite feeding station at Gigrin Farm near Rhayader, but I didn't go there with photography in mind so it's difficult to compare them. I remember being in a hide at Rhayader and if that's always the case, it's difficult to imagine the opportunities there being as good as they are at Bwlch Nant yr Arian.
Bwlch Nant yr Arian is located 10 miles east of Aberystwyth on the A44, two miles west of Ponterwyd.
