Lymm Dam

Lymm Dam is surrounded by woodlands and meadows and many areas of exposed sandstone rock; the rock created around 250 million years ago. There are very pleasant walks around the dam, which make it very popular at the weekend and for dog-walkers, many of them failing to clean up after themselves! It can also be busy with people fishing. I prefer going during the week when there are fewer people around, although I still meet some interesting characters!
There is the usual mixture of birds here, including Wrens, Tits, Robins, Blackbirds, and Dunnocks. There is also Nuthatch, Treecreeper, Great Spotted Woodpecker. The lake itself is home to Cormorant, Mallard, Coot, Moorhen, Tufted Duck and Great Crested Grebe.
The stars of the show are the resident and breeding Kingfishers. However, we should bear in mind that it is illegal to photograph Kingfishers at or near a nest without a licence; see Bird Photography and the Law.
At the time of writing, I'm not overly happy with my images from Lymm Dam. Still, it's within easy reach, so I'll keep trying.
The Dam is situated south of Lymm village on the A56.
